Messages of Condolences from CPS

Dear Norman B. Anderson,

We, Chinese Psychological Society, would like to express our deepest condolences to APA for Raymond left us.
Raymond not only contributed greatly to the development of APA, but also played a critical role in supporting the development of Chinese Psychological Society. His contribution to Chinese psychology started from 1980, when the 1st Delegation of American psychologists visited Beijing. From then on, he came to China many times to promote psychology here and provided his warmest support to us. For instance, Raymond played a very important role in supporting our application as a member of the International Union of Psychological Science, 1980. He also joined us at Guangzhou, 1995, for the first regional international conference hosted by IUPsyS and IAAP jointly as one of the leaders of the conference. In 2001, Raymond had lectures in the Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy of Sciences and in Beijing University, which significantly boosted the development of Psychology in China. Beyond that, Raymond also provided generous guidance for young Chinese psychologists studying in the US.
Our hearts is with you, full of condolence!

Dear Sandy,

We would like to express our heartfelt condolences to you for Ray left us.

We are all shocked by the sad news.

Ray was a longtime friend of Chinese psychologists of three generations. His contribution to Chinese psychology started from 1980, when the 1st Delegation of American psychologists visited Beijing. From then on, he came to China many times to promote psychology here and provided his warmest support to us. Professor Jing told us that when the Chinese Psychological Society applied to be a member of the International Union of Psychological Science, in 1980, Leipzig, Germany, Ray’s support was extremely impressed and appreciated.  In 1995, he joined us at Guangzhou for the first regional international conference hosted by IUPsyS and IAAP jointly as one of the leaders of the conference, lately the conference becomes an important international platform to promote psychology in the developing world and pays great role up to today; in 2001, he came to Beijing and had lectures in the Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy of Sciences and in Beijing University. Our experiences of his caring, kind support and wisdom sharing are of course not limited in China, but also in many international stages. He also provided generous guidance for young Chinese psychologists studying in the US.

We have heard Ray's great contribution in the development of APA, but his lifelong dedication and leadership to psychology is much more beyond that. We specifically own our appreciation for his long time guidance and support to Asian psychology.

Our trip in your lovely home in San Diego, in 2011, has been a good memory. Ray's smile, our dialogue in many issues, your introduction of pictures and journal covers, are still in our mind, together with your warm hospitality.

Our hearts is with you and the family, full of condolence!
